Immunity Boosting Tea - Facts and Recipe


      Pandemic, lockdown, work from home. We have been hearing these words for the past year. The world is going through a difficult phase that has made us realize the value of health. Immunity is the word that is at the tip of everyone's tongue. People are sharing various recipes and immunity-boosting foods. I came across one such recipe that I would like to share with you all.

We all know India is a country that is rich in spices. We use these spices in almost every Indian dish to add taste and aroma. But apart from this, the seasonings provide a wide range of health benefits. I am listing the benefits and nutritional facts of spices from the recipe.

Mint

Mint leaves contain vitamin A, vitamin C, B-complex, phosphorous, calcium and have antibacterial properties.  It is one of the rich sources of iron, potassium, and manganese that improves hemoglobin levels and promotes brain function.

Turmeric

Turmeric helps in reducing the risk of heart diseases, cancer and boosts immunity. Curcumin is a chemical compound in turmeric that has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Ginger

Ginger has anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiallergic properties. Ginger also contains traceable amounts of Vitamin B3 and B6, iron, potassium, vitamin C, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, folate.

Black pepper

Black pepper contains piperine, a bioactive compound. It can help to lower the risk of chronic illnesses like atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and neurological conditions.

Jaggery

Jaggery provides a range of health benefits. Some of them include improved digestive health, anemia prevention, liver detoxification, and improved immune function. It also contains traces of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has quite a reputation as a healing agent. The spice has antibacterial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.

With these benefits, let us now see the recipe of the tea. The amount of each ingredient depends on the number of servings.

Boil 1 inch of ginger, a pinch of each turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, and a handful of mint leaves together with 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory, and black pepper helps to absorb the turmeric and activate it. Once the water is half boiled, add a teaspoon of jaggery and simmer the water for 2-3 minutes on a high flame. Once done, strain the water into a cup. Your power-packed immunity-boosting tea is ready.
